Hearst Tower
DescriptionFinished in October 2006, this is the first Gold LEED certified building in New York City. The buildings "diagrid" structural frame required approximately 2,000 tons less steel (savings of 20%), and the HVAC system utilizes outdoor air for cooling and air flow, resulting in a 22% reduction of energy use and carbon dioxide emissions. This tower was built on top of an existing six story Art Deco designed in 1928 by Joseph Urban. The shell of this old base now composes a large internal plaza of the new tower. Architect
