C. Montgomery "Monty" Burns is the robber-barron-cum general misanthrope of Springfield and owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Though he is one of the richest men in the world, Burns is credited with a host of nefarious schemes, including the use of a giant "Burns Omni-Net" to sweep the ocean clean of sealife, the killing of several dozen greyhound puppies in order to make a new coat, and the blocking out of the sun. Burns is one of the first satisfied customers at Ned Flanders "Leftorium" store in Springfield Mall, where he is delighted to purchase a left-handed can opener.
