DescriptionThe World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List, which tallies 41,415 species of life*, has listed 16,306 of those as being in danger of extinction. That means that more than 1/3 of the species on this list are in danger. Note that the IUCN considers its estimate to be conservative due to the fact that only tracks about 3% of the world's estimated 1.9 million species. *figures current as of September 2007. |
