Name of Spot
El Paredon, Guatemala
SummaryJust spent 9 days here with 3 friends. We were pretty much alone the entire time, 2 girls came the last 3 days. The place was just taken over by Rafael and Heidi, a cute couple that really wants to turn it around and put some improvements in to make it a bit nicer. This is the most remote, quiet and empty beachbreak. Very bare bones accommodations, but couldn't ask for more. Think little huts with bunkbeds and bugnets, outdoor showers, and just the locals around. Sand everywhere, even the roads in the small village were sand. 3 locals were awesome surfers [one that was 8 years old and rode a 5'2, another that was some sort of junior champ] and very friendly to share their waves with us. although not much sharing, as there was never anymore than 6 of us in the water at a given time. The waves are a bit fickle, it was big when we got there and mellowed out over the week with only 1-2ft...Early morning 7am is definitely the time to get on it as it could be blown out by noon. There is a channel off to the right that will help you paddle out on bigger days. Beware of sting rays, as I unluckily stepped on one and it was pretty damn painful. We felt like we were a part of their family for the week we were there. Food was decent [you didn't have choices, Olivia just made the same thing for everyone, although we realized later in the week that you could request chicken, fish, etc if you wanted and she was open to making it]. Nothing to do at night, except drink a few beers with anyone staying at the camp and listen to the church music in the distance. Definitely check out the chicken stand [only open on Sundays around church time] and the ice cream shop for some other food options. Went to sleep by 9/10pm every night. All in all, really relaxing and definitely worth checking out if you want a beach break that is all your own.
