Title
Solar Disinfection (SODIS)
DescriptionExposure to UV radiation from the sun can effectively inactivate microbial pathogens in drinking water that is free of suspended particles. Disinfection occurs via thermal treatment and UV disruption of microbial cells. Exposure times in the tropics vary from 5 hrs under full sun to two days under cloudy conditions. Several peer-reviewed field trials demonstrate the efficacy of this extremely low-cost method. Tags
