Individuals that the administration deemed "enemy combatants" after 9/11 have been held at Guantanamo Bay detention center without ever charging them with formal crimes. The Administration contended that these prisoners were not entitled to the protection of the Geneva Convention, a contention that was negated by the Supreme Court in June, 2006.
