Title
Lambert Convalescing Home
DescriptionThis building, built by Drs. Richard and Edith Bell Lambert in 1913, served as St. Charles' first hospital. The establishment of the Lambert Convalescing Home laid the foundation for the health service which later grew into Delnor Hospital. During its existence, the convalescing home had a twelve bed capacity and served as a treatment center primarily for injured workers. It served the community on a limited basis. In the mid 1920s, a larger facility became necessary. The American Legion bought the Gillette house on 2nd Avenue and organized the twenty bed St. Charles City Hospital. When the hospital moved out of the original building on Main Street in 1928, it was converted into Moose Hall. Over the years, the building has housed apartments and various businesses.
