A LOOK AT 12 N. THIRD STREET THIS 30TH DAY OF AUGUST 2005
Submitted by Henry Feltgen

Oh what a building: if only these walls could talk!

Going way back to the early 1920’s, you could go to 12 N. 3rd Street to see an old silent movie. This didn’t last too long.

Along came Ross O. Judd opening Judd Motor Sales selling Model T and Model A Fords. In the 1930’s, Ross Judd dropped the Ford franchise, which was taken up by another dealer. He became a Buick dealer.

The Buick dealership was active until World War II.

In March, 1942, all production of automobiles in the United States stopped not to be continued again until fall, 1945.

During the war years, Ross Judd gave up his dealership to help with the war effort by working in a war plant. The building at 12 N. Third became a warehouse for Operadio Corp. (now DuKane Corp.)

On Monday, November 19, 1945, the building was open again for a Buick dealership, Feltgen Buick Co., phone 584-2774, and remained so until April 14, 1956, when the franchise was transferred to M.R. Davison d/b/a Davison Motor Sales.

The building up to this point was owned by Mary Jane Wilcox who subsequently transferred to her grandson, William J. Birthwhistle.

After the last Buick left the building it became Voss Furniture where it remained until Voss Furniture moved to the western end of the Valley Shopping Center.

Under the ownership of Bill Birthwhistle the building became a teenage roller rink, Skate-N-Fun, and later, a nightclub.

Needing extra storage space the building was taken over by Davison Buick as a warehouse for his cars. This was transferred to Richard Massarelli on August 1, 1978. Shortly after that, Voila!, The Market. And here we are today.
