On November 6th, 2000 49-year-old swimmer Ken Crew died after being attacked by a shark. He was on his regular morning swim at Cottesloe Beach when he came around the reef and stood up in knee-deep water when a swell came through and shark barreled over the wave and hit Ken. Ken lost his leg and would die from the unfortunate event.
