On the 2nd September 1962 spearfisherman Maurizio Sarra was fatally attacked by a Great White shark while diving off San Felice Circeo, Italy. Sarra had just deposited a harpooned perch into his boat and was descending to the ocean floor at around 50-70 feet depth when the shark struck. He died on the operating table as a result of serious injuries to both legs.
