On December 2nd, 2006 a 15-year-old boy was attacked by an unidentified shark. He was with his brother and friend out at Wharton Beach, a remote south coast beach, east of Esperance, when a shark bit off his right leg just above the right knee. The boy was taken to the Esperance hospital in an ambulance in serious but stable condition.
