On the 24th September 1961 19 year old Serbian student Sabit Plana was fatally attacked by a large White Shark while swimming with 7 companions 100 metres offshore at Opatija, Croatia. The shark surfaced, bit off his hand and injured his legs. Sabit died before a boat from shore could reach him.
