Man pleads no contest after child porn found on broken computer
DescriptionA Racine man whose child pornography was discovered when he brought his computer in for repairs has pleaded no contest to a felony charge of possession of child porn. The state is expected to recommended three years in prison for Dale A. Meldgaard, 68, who entered his plea Friday. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. According to court documents, Meldgaard brought his computer into a repair shop and asked technicians to transfer the hard drive to a new computer. During the repair process, staff members had to unlock files and make sure they worked properly. The manager reportedly found sexually explicit photos of preteen and teenage boys on the computer and called police.
