AMMOND — A sting operation led to the arrests of two men — one on Monday and another on May 31 — implicated in Internet crimes involving children as victims, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office said Saturday.

Richard William Schmith, 34, 15865 64th St., Sumner, Wash., was booked into Tangipahoa Parish Prison on Monday on a count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor. Bond was set at $75,000, booking documents said.

Detectives arrested Schmith, a long-haul truck driver, after he traveled to Hammond to meet and have sex with someone who he believed to be an underage teenager, sheriff’s spokeswoman Blair Foster said in a statement.
